Importance of Free Speech as January 18th Will Live In Infamy…

Free Speech

As this is the second American Revolution and the shot heard around the world as the American people shouted, loudly did they shout to their elected officials. In turn, the volume was so loud they [the elected officials] could not stick their heads in the sand as with health care and the many other things they feel they “know better” then the people who elected them.

With this, both SOPA and PIPA have been tabled, yet what does this mean? As is the war over and won by the people, or is this just a battle while the political overlords lay in wait for us “the people” to settle back into our daily slumber allowing them the ability to sneak these ill deeds in the backdoor.

Well unfortunately it’s the latter as any good negotiator worth their salt knows the term “defend and delay“. The political overlords (i.e. the left leaning big media purchased politicians) tried to “defend” their position yet unsuccessfully, so what’s next? Yes, you guessed it, “delay” as people tend to forget and big bangs as a redux on the same topic is very hard as the “vogue” factor has worn off with the first go around.

As this is the difference between a “battle” and a “war” as you can think of the war as being a “long period of boredom” punctuated with “short bursts of pure insanity”. As the first battle is always memorable (good or bad), yet the second is old hat where the excitement has long left. Thus the way to win a war you ask, the answer is simple out wait your enemy. As the media companies aren’t going anywhere tomorrow so they have nothing but time on their hands with deep pockets to.

As I wain here in a negative light, there is a lot to be learned from a battle like this when 13 million voices speak at once the sound is deafening and is the main reason this fight is so important as it’s not about pirated movies or someone torrenting the latest Lady Gaga songs. It’s about the ability to do what we just did (yes I was one of those 13 million voices) as this is what freedom is about, it is what America was founded upon. Should the media companies find this important to their business model than may I suggest China where this is allowed and as I walk down any street there [in most of Asia] are dozen street vendors wanting to sell me pirated movies so what have they accomplished?

As I’ve waxed here before, pirating is a commercial problem and not a social one, therefore social means such as free speech should not be compromised for commercial gain period. As the “right” to speak and present openly is a basic human right, even if some choose to abuse this “right”, it does not give others the right to take this away from us…

Who Says Space Isn’t Important…

There was once a day we soared to the heavens, we commanded the sky! Yet today, our wings clipped we stand on Terra Firma and watch as the world passes us by...

There is a race going and we are not part of it and we all know if you’re not in a race, you can’t be a winner and that is on many fronts.  As Asia’s current space race could also turn into an arms race akin to what we saw in the days of the Cold War.  Well that is I guess according to James Clay Moltz, who is a professor in the Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School.

As he writes that the major Asian nations, namely China, Japan, India, and South Korea, are all investing monies to expand their space programs [are we? No] with little-to-no cooperation. While these efforts appear to be driven by want of national prestige there also exist geopolitical rivalries, similar to the ones faced by the US and Soviet’s in the space race of the 1960s. The thing is and what most westerners forget is that during the period of the “space race” it stimulated technological advancements which made us who we are today [and thus missing out on for the future].

While competing agendas in Asia are leading to a duplication of work and mistrust among the countries involved.  Where is also the waste of resources while even worse [for us], is this “competition” if you will is also undermining recent cooperation which has been built up between the US, Russia, and Europe.

As unlike here in the west, Asia doesn’t have any type of regional security organization such as NATO.  So when you add this fact with the long-standing feuds seen between  nations such as China & India, India & Pakistan, to of course  North Korea & South Korea, and on and on and on, well you get the idea as cant we all just get along? Means a civilian space race could turn into an arms race as what other good use of could there be for a big rocket, let see [insert thinking time here].  Aah yes, an ICBM and guess what, yes a big rocket makes for bad bomb building techniques.  As thermo nuclear bombs are easy to build, however it’s hard to make them small, so the issue has been one of “delivery”, whereas have big [rocket] then can deliver.

On the other front, each of these nations has performed separate lunar-mapping missions since 2007, with planned follow ups which will include the deployment of rovers, landers, and lunar bases.  Again without any cooperation, even though a lot of the work will be redundant.   Even our friends in Japan are climbing fast with the most human spaceflight experience in the region.  As with 15 manned flights since 1992 along with a paid membership in the International Space Station.  However it has always had to  hitchhike a ride with either us or Russia.

Here China on the other hand as launched its first astronaut in only 2003  along with many follow-up flights since.  To its most recent accomplishment of launching a Tiangong-1 orbital test module for a planned 2020 space station all on its own!  While not to be out done, India who feels a little earth bound has announced  a planned manned flight to take place in 2016. Have to wonder if they are interested in buying a fleet of slightly used space shuttles?

Worth noting is they don’t also plan to stop with manned  spaceflight efforts either, as the three major nations also have plans to deploy their own solutions to the US-maintained Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite network.  In fact, China has already deployed over one third of its planned 35-satellite “BeiDou” network in orbit  Note worthy too is ours are old, theirs are new.

The long story short is we the west are being left behind, we have retired our only good manned way to space and depend now upon others for rides aloft.  We have forgotten how to go to the moon as well as “this that and the other thing”, god speed John Glenn…

The Invasion of Europe is Starting…

The Invasion Force...

A recent Economist article titled: “The Danish Armada” caught my attention as a key quote in the story read “The new ships will ply the routes between Asia and Europe, arriving in Europe packed with Chinese-made TVs and fridges but sailing back much lighter” and then goes on to further support this with “they sail form China fully laden and return nearly empty”.   Wow, if Angela Merkel isn’t nervous now, she should be as all she has to do is look over her western shoulder to the United States to see what is headed her way.

As the Danish shipping giant Maersk just placed an order for ten container ships with an option for 20 more, and these are by no means the run of the mill kind known today which ply our seven seas.  These in turn will be the new “Triple-E” class which are slated to carry a mind numbing 18,000 containers which is a whopping 2, 500 more than any ship can carry today!  This number represents a 16% increase in capacity which would be an amazing feat if it were not for the fact  Daewoo was able to do this for 50% less fuel per container! So this all seems good for all involved right, as people in Europe can now benefit even further from the economies provided by Chinese manufactured consumer goods.

Well this is why Angela needs to be looking to the west as the invasion has already happened and the battles are now the legends of popular [culture] business books as the war is over and the Americans have lost.  Here the dollar [USD] has been disseminated and now the fleets as shared in the article are being built to make the trip toward the next conquest on  yet a new continent.

So what was this war you ask and how come we [Americans] didn’t hear of the raging battles taking place on our own shores?  The answer is simple as we stuck our heads in the sand and plunked down those credit cards and kept buy and buying yet again sending those container ships back empty to their ports in the orient to be filled once again.  The result of this is these ships may have returned with empty containers; however their check books where far from the 23.  As these where chocked full of “hard” USD (US Dollars/Green Backs) and one has to ask where did these come from?  Well we borrowed them (dollars) from the same people who are sending the container ships here in a form “economic cannibalism” if you will as we steal from the preverbal Peter to pay his brother Paul.  Thus was born a national debt of a size which most likely will never be able to be paid back.  In fact these people who loaned us the money are getting tired of loaning us more money as they are concerned we wont be able to pay them back.

In fact they are right in their assumptions as the government fired up the ole printing press as we are running out of money!  Yes a folk there is only so much and that’s it, thus this movement toward the European continent is telling as grazing pastures of the United States has been nibbled to the roots and now a deep shade of brown.  So it’s off to greener pastures and a new currency to dominate, so Angela you can’t say you haven’t been warned…
